Catalogue-Entry Work at Sree Chithira Thirunal Library
On September 26, 2026, NSS volunteers from Units 5A and 5B of Government Arts College, Thycaud, participated in a catalogue-entry work at Vanchiyoor Sree Chithira Thirunal Library as part of NSS activities. The work involved entering catalogue details into a Google Sheet and was carried out from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM. The volunteers actively contributed to the systematic cataloguing of library resources.
NSS DAY CELEBRATION 2026
NSS Day was celebrated by NSS Units 5A and 5B of Government Arts College, Thycaud, on 24 September 2026 at 10:30 AM in the College Auditorium. The programme began with the NSS Song, followed by an address by Principal Uma Jyothi Ma’am, who highlighted the importance of NSS in developing social responsibility, leadership qualities and a spirit of service among students. Programme Officers Nabeela Ma’am and Shubha Ma’am also spoke about the significance of NSS and the role of volunteers in community-oriented activities. This year, NSS Day was observed across the state with a focus on anti-drug awareness, and an Anti-Drug Pledge was administered as part of the programme. Cultural programmes by NSS volunteers, including dance, song and a mime highlighting the harmful effects of drugs, were also presented. An NSS Wall displaying photographs and memories of various NSS activities was prepared, along with a Mind Tree activity where volunteers expressed their moods using different colours. The NSS Corner was cleaned and transformed into a Green Corner by planting and arranging plants. Through these meaningful and engaging activities, NSS Day 2026 was celebrated in a memorable and purposeful manner.
Toofan Walkathon
As part of the implementation of the Toofan Anti-Drug Initiative, the Government of Kerala and the State NSS Cell organized district-level programme on 24 September 2026 in connection with NSS Day. The Thiruvananthapuram district-level programme was held at University College, featuring flag hoisting and pledge-taking, followed by the Toofan Walkathon from University College to Central Stadium. The NSS volunteers of Government Arts College, Thycaud (NSS Units 5A & 5B), actively took part in the programme as Toofan Commandos, representing the college and joining hands with other volunteers in spreading the message against drug abuse.
Teacher's Day Celebration
The NSS Units 5A and 5B of Government Arts College, Thycaud, in association with the NCC and Collector’s Campus Connect, organized a Teachers’ Day Celebration on 11 September 2026 at 12:00 PM at Govt. Model HS LPS and Nursery, Thycaud, to honour Smt. Sunitha G.S., a retiring LP School Teacher. The programme included addresses by the school Headmistress Smt. Bindu V K and Smt. Uma Jyothi, Principal of Government Arts College. As part of the celebration, the retiring teacher was felicitated, and Teachers’ Day cards with sweets attached were distributed to the teachers of the school and the college as a token of gratitude and appreciation for their valuable service and contribution to education.
World Suicide Prevention Day
World Suicide Prevention Day was observed by NSS Units 5A & 5B of Government Arts College, Thycaud, on 10 September 2026 at 11:00 AM in the College Auditorium, with the theme “Changing the Narrative on Suicide” in association with Jeevani Center for Student Well Being. The programme commenced with the NSS song and was anchored by NSS Volunteer Mahima S. M. Jeevani Coordinator Dalia Ma’am addressed the gathering, followed by an interactive awareness session by Jeevani Psychologist Kavya Satheesan Ma’am focusing on risk factors, warning signs and protective factors of suicide. The programme included a mime performance, yellow ribbon distribution, and a sticky-note activity where participants displayed meaningful quotes and messages on a board. A poster-making activity was also conducted, and the posters were displayed in the college portico. As part of the outreach programme at Government Model Boys Higher Secondary School, Thycaud, a mime performance, poster exhibition and an awareness session by Kavya Satheesan Ma’am were also conducted.
Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue 2027 Quiz
The Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue (VBYLD) 2027 Quiz, an initiative of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports conducted through MYBharat, was participated in by the NSS volunteers of Government Arts College, Thycaud, on 9 September 2026 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The quiz was completed by all the NSS volunteers, providing them with an opportunity to enhance their awareness of India’s development, leadership, national values, and the role of youth in nation-building.
International literacy day
The NSS Units 5A and 5B of Government Arts College, Thycaud, observed International Literacy Day on 8 September 2026 at 12:30 PM at the College Portico. The programme began with the NSS Song by the choir, followed by a welcome and introduction by Joint Volunteer Secretary Devika A.M. Volunteer Midhat Afrin delivered an awareness speech highlighting the importance of literacy as a fundamental right and a tool for empowerment and social development. The programme concluded with a Vote Thanks, successfully creating awareness about the value of literacy.
Kootu – “Amma k Oru Onam Kodi”
Hiroshima & Nagasaki Day - 11 August 2026
On 11 August 2026 at 12:30 PM, NSS Units 5A and 5B of Government Arts College, Thiruvananthapuram, observed Hiroshima & Nagasaki Day at the college portico to commemorate the victims of the atomic bombings and spread awareness about peace and the devastating consequences of war. The programme included the hanging of Sadako cranes as a symbol of peace and hope, followed by a pledge against war and in support of peace and harmony. NSS Programme Officer Nabeela Ma’am delivered a speech highlighting the significance of the day and the importance of promoting peace. An elocution competition was also organised, providing students with an opportunity to express their views on peace and the consequences of war. The programme conveyed a meaningful message of peace, humanity, unity, and collective responsibility.
Dry Day - 7 August 2026
On 7 August 2026, the Government Arts College, Thiruvananthapuram NSS Units 5A and 5B, in association with the Clean Campus Initiative, observed Dry Day by organizing a campus cleaning drive. NSS volunteers actively participated in collecting and segregating paper waste and plastic waste for proper disposal and recycling. With the enthusiastic support and teamwork of the volunteers, the programme helped maintain a cleaner and greener campus while promoting the importance of cleanliness, waste segregation, and environmental responsibility.
"Karuthal" Flood Relief Collection Programme
The National Service Scheme (NSS) Units 5A and 5B of Govt. Arts College, Thiruvananthapuram organized the “Karuthal” Flood Relief Collection Programme on 7th August 2026 to support flood-affected families in Kerala. As part of the programme, NSS volunteers collected cash contributions and essential relief materials from the students and staff of the college. The collected items included clothes, food supplies, drinking water, toiletries, cleaning materials, notebooks, school bags, bedsheets, buckets, and other daily essentials. After sorting and packing the donations, the materials were transported to University College, Thiruvananthapuram, the designated collection center, for further distribution to the flood-affected regions. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from the college community and reflected the values of compassion, unity, and social responsibility.
World Youth Skills Day – Interactive Skill Development Session- 4 August 2026
As part of the observance of World Youth Skills Day, the NSS Units 5A & 5B of Government Arts College, Thiruvananthapuram, in association with the Karnika Foundation, organized a two-hour interactive skill development session on 4th August 2026 in the college auditorium. The programme was led by Mr. Abhiram and the Karnika Foundation team, a youth-led NGO committed to holistic individual and community development through education, life skills, psychology, and creative arts. The session included engaging activities, games, and interactive discussions that encouraged active student participation while creating awareness about the importance of identifying and developing personal skills. The programme received an enthusiastic response from the participants, who appreciated the informative and inspiring nature of the session and shared positive feedback on the overall experience.
