Hiroshima & Nagasaki Day - 11 August 2026
On 11 August 2026 at 12:30 PM, NSS Units 5A and 5B of Government Arts College, Thiruvananthapuram, observed Hiroshima & Nagasaki Day at the college portico to commemorate the victims of the atomic bombings and spread awareness about peace and the devastating consequences of war. The programme included the hanging of Sadako cranes as a symbol of peace and hope, followed by a pledge against war and in support of peace and harmony. NSS Programme Officer Nabeela Ma’am delivered a speech highlighting the significance of the day and the importance of promoting peace. An elocution competition was also organised, providing students with an opportunity to express their views on peace and the consequences of war. The programme conveyed a meaningful message of peace, humanity, unity, and collective responsibility.
Dry Day - 7 August 2026
On 7 August 2026, the Government Arts College, Thiruvananthapuram NSS Units 5A and 5B, in association with the Clean Campus Initiative, observed Dry Day by organizing a campus cleaning drive. NSS volunteers actively participated in collecting and segregating paper waste and plastic waste for proper disposal and recycling. With the enthusiastic support and teamwork of the volunteers, the programme helped maintain a cleaner and greener campus while promoting the importance of cleanliness, waste segregation, and environmental responsibility.
"Karuthal" Flood Relief Collection Programme
The National Service Scheme (NSS) Units 5A and 5B of Govt. Arts College, Thiruvananthapuram organized the “Karuthal” Flood Relief Collection Programme on 7th August 2026 to support flood-affected families in Kerala. As part of the programme, NSS volunteers collected cash contributions and essential relief materials from the students and staff of the college. The collected items included clothes, food supplies, drinking water, toiletries, cleaning materials, notebooks, school bags, bedsheets, buckets, and other daily essentials. After sorting and packing the donations, the materials were transported to University College, Thiruvananthapuram, the designated collection center, for further distribution to the flood-affected regions. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from the college community and reflected the values of compassion, unity, and social responsibility.
World Youth Skills Day – Interactive Skill Development Session- 4 August 2026
As part of the observance of World Youth Skills Day, the NSS Units 5A & 5B of Government Arts College, Thiruvananthapuram, in association with the Karnika Foundation, organized a two-hour interactive skill development session on 4th August 2026 in the college auditorium. The programme was led by Mr. Abhiram and the Karnika Foundation team, a youth-led NGO committed to holistic individual and community development through education, life skills, psychology, and creative arts. The session included engaging activities, games, and interactive discussions that encouraged active student participation while creating awareness about the importance of identifying and developing personal skills. The programme received an enthusiastic response from the participants, who appreciated the informative and inspiring nature of the session and shared positive feedback on the overall experience.
