Department of Physics
Department of Physics is one of the pioneer departments in Government Arts College. Initially the department was started with pre degree courses. Later after discontinuing the pre degree courses, BSc Physics course was started. Presently BSc Physics course is offered along with Mathematics and Statistics as complimentary subjects.
At present the Department offers Four Year Undergraduate Program in Physics. Both Four Year Honours Program and Four Year Honours with Research Program are available in the Department. The elective courses chosen will help the student to cover almost all the thrust research areas in Physics including, Space Physics, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Electronics etc.
Our Library has a wide variety of books including those specifically discusses syllabus related contents as well as general Physics topics. A well established computer lab caters students needs including programing lab, assignment and project preparation, data collection etc.

Major Physics
The students pursuing major in physics can take the required minimum credits from the course basket.
Minor courses
Students who are interested to take Physics papers for their minor component requirement can take the DSC papers offered in the first three semesters for meeting the minimum requirements for Major with multiple discipline or Single major pathway. Students pursuing the major with minor pathway may take additional 3 DSC courses via online mode to meet the 24 credit requirement for Physics Minor

Physics Facilities
The Department has a seminar hall with audio-video facility and can accommodate about 50 members. Department owns a well-stocked library containing reference books for students and faculty. Other major facilities of the department comprises of a fully equipped computer lab with internet access and two spacious laboratories for general and electronics experiments.
